Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by laying on hands. Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is based on the idea that non-physical energy animates all living things and can be accumulated and guided by the mind. We are more susceptible to stress and illness when the energy is low. Reiki increases and balances the flow of energy in the body and therefore boosts the immune system and the bodies’ natural ability to restore balance and heal itself, which promotes health and relaxation. Relaxation releases muscle tension and offers relief from anxiety and depression, by restoring immune function and improving circulation. Also providing you with the opportunity to be nurtured and cared for.

To receive Reiki, most people lie on a table fully clothed, with one or two practitioners. Comfortable clothing is recommended with no jewelry, watches, and belts. The practitioner(s) place his/her hands on or above the body while using traditional hand placements to work with the energy system within each person. Light and non-touch techniques are applied on or above your head, shoulders, back, chest, stomach, and limbs. Although, practitioners generally follow a series of traditional hand positions, they can place their hands anywhere you would like them to, for example over an injury or an area of discomfort. There is no intense pressure applied to the body. It is important to relax and don’t force the energy, it will flow where it needs to go.
