    The Comical Son Returns

Schenectady’s own Dan Frigolette brings the gift of laughter this Holiday Season

photo: Schenectady Born Stand Up Comedian Dan Frigolette living in New York City, is back in town for the Holidays, bringing yuletide laughs to all those in the area.

Everyone needs a laugh this time of the year. December may be a month filled with overeating, familial disputes, financial woes about not being able to afford the biggest and brightest goodies and gadgets for the loved ones, and the back breaking task of snow removal. December is ripe for stimulating the funny bone, and who better to bring humor to the situation than Schenectady’s own Dan Frigolette.

Born at Bellevue Woman’s Center, now a part of Ellis Hospital, Frigolette is the son of John Frigolette and Ann Bucci. John and Ann met while attending Linton High School, now Niskayuna High, and married at St. Anthony’s Church. Ann is the daughter of Caesar Bucci who attended Union College and spent his whole career working at General Electric. John’s father Dick Frigolette ran an insurance agency on State Street for years in Schenectady.

Frigolette’s whole family and humble beginnings originated in Schenectady. His grandparents, cousins, aunts and uncles all live within a few miles of Union College. His cousin Anthony even works as a Public Safety Officer at the college. Dan himself spent a summer on the campus teaching children improv comedy.

Lately one can find Frigolette’s name ubiquitously scattered amongst comedy listings, having played every major comedy club in the New York City area. He’s been featured on TLC, and in the pages of Time Out NY,  CollegeHumor.com, and he recently headlined a night at the legendary Caroline’s Comedy Club in New York City.

Currently residing in Hoboken New Jersey, home of Carlo’s Bakery from TLC’s Cake Boss, Frigolette has done his part to become a staple in the community. In 2010 he created the Hoboken Comedy Festival that celebrated its third year successful year in 2012 with more than 700 patrons in attendance. The Festival, whose goal it is to “Celebrate Hoboken’s Entertainment Independence” raised over $1100 for the Liberty Humane Society which supports dog adoption services and low cost animal vaccinations in Hudson County, and brought over 30 comedians to Hoboken over five days. Talent in recent years has included: Judah Friedlander (30 Rock), Amy Schumer (Charlie Sheen Roast), Artie Lange (Howard Stern), Godfrey (Sprite/Comedy Central), Todd Barry (The Wrestler), and Hannibal Burress (GQ’s Funniest of 2011).

“I want to give as much back to comedy as it gives to me” says Frigolette of his efforts to produce comedy shows, tours and festivals all over the US. He’s toured the country doing comedy and now he hopes to entertain family and friends for the first time in the town of his birth this holiday season.

Dan brings with him an arsenal of talent with Moody McCarthy and Frank Gentile adding to the bill. Frank Gentile is an Albany based comedian whose resume includes Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and a laundry list of comedy clubs throughout New York. He’s a regular at the Albany Comedy Works and runs a show at the Comedy Lantern locally.

Moody McCarthy is a comedy veteran. Raised in Syracuse NY in a large Irish family he first hit the stage in his hometown in 1992. He immediately caught the comedy bug and started performing anywhere he could. With a number of years of radio under his belt and his years headlining comedy clubs from both coasts, Moody is the definition of an established comedian. This year Moody performed on The Late Show with David Letterman, adding to his television resume that already included Jimmy Kimmel Live, Last Comic Standing, and Star Search. Moody is one of the funniest comedians working today, his friendship with Frigolette is what brings him along for the ride.
